Vikings volleyball captain reaches 1,000 career digs
The Wareham Vikings volleyball team saw another player reach a historic career milestone as Senior Captain Riley Florindo earned her 1,000th career dig.
Florindo reached the milestone as the Vikings defeated Madison Park Vocational High School 3 to 0 in the second round of the state tournament Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Wareham High School.
The Vikings took on Bourne High School in the third round of the state tournament but were eliminated from the tournament Saturday, Nov. 9.
"Ever since I started playing high school volleyball it has been my goal and dream to get 1,000 digs," said Florindo.
Florindo said she has been playing volleyball "ever since I could walk" and added she is proud to have done it with a team that has "come a very long way."
"To not winning a single game to being able to go 18-2 is special," said Florindo. "I love the chemistry of that team, everyone gets along and my coach always supports me through everything."
Florindo said her teammates and her coach have played big roles in helping her reach 1,000 career digs.
"When I'm down my teammates always know how to cheer me up and my coach tells me not get to hard on myself," said Florindo. "[My coach] knows I get into my head a lot and she tells me not to get to down on myself."
