Volunteers needed to economically empower youths
Financial literacy is often one of the last skills gained by young people venturing out into the world. The nonprofit organization Junior Achievement is trying to change that and looking for volunteers.
Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts is seeking volunteers to teach classes in Southern Plymouth County during their spring session. Volunteers will educate students about free enterprise, financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship.
“JA programs fill a very important gap that often exists between what students are learning in school and how it applies to the real world,” said Caroline Paradis, Junior Achievement president. “Volunteers don’t need to have any previous experience in the classroom; in fact, most people don’t when they first start volunteering with JA. They just need to be willing to share their experiences and open students to new possibilities.”
JA provides new volunteers with training and all program materials needed to teach the course. Opportunities are available at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Volunteers will give 45-60 minutes per week for five to seven sessions, depending on the program.
