Wareham boys basketball team aims to score big

Dec 7, 2018

The Wareham boys basketball team is gearing up for what coach Stephen Faniel hopes will be another successful year for the Vikings.

The team took second place in the South Coast Conference last year, finishing out the season as small division champs. This year, Faniel said he was optimistic that the team could make it into the conference once again, possibly advancing the Vikings to the state tournament.

Each year, Faniel said the team has three goals: To win their division, to win the conference and to win state.

“We made a lot of strides last year,” he said. “And we’re going to keep getting better this year one game at a time.”

The Viking’s varsity team consists of 12 players, many of whom are returning from last season. The team is lead by senior captains Taylor Carlson, Samarin Auguste and Devin Gonsalves. Carlson is the team’s lone All Star.

“We’re a lot taller and faster than we were last year,” said Carlson. “But I know we still need to work on our defense.”
