An East Wareham mother and members of her “Oliver’s Rockin’ Crew” were among hundreds of people at the 7th annual Buddy Walk by the Sea in Hyannis, an event that raised $40,000 for Down syndrome advocacy.

More than 400 people attended the event, including Tammy Marot whose team’s namesake is her 17-month-old son Oliver. This is Marot’s second year participating in the walk.

This year, the team raised $3,324 that will fund support programs for individuals with Down syndrome and advocacy work.

Marot said that number is up from last year when the team raised $2,800, but still short of the $6,000 goal that “Oliver’s Rockin’ Crew” has set the past couple years.

Marot said the team will continue to work towards that goal, adding that the Buddy Walk by the Sea Walk as become an annual highlight for her and her husband.

“It’s so positive and so filled with acceptance,” said Marot. “We connect with people we don’t get to see very often. It’s like coming to a big family reunion.”

Organized by the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress, the Buddy Walk by the Sea is a 1.2-mile walk that features opportunities to network with disability groups.
