Wareham Fire District meeting scheduled for Monday
The Wareham Fire District will hold its annual meeting on Monday, April 14, at 7 p.m. at the Wareham High auditorium. All registered voters in the district are eligible to participate and vote.
The Wareham Fire District, a government entity separate from the Town of Wareham, provides water and fire-protection services to much of – but not all of -- the town.
With its roots in civic associations formed to provide fire protection for the Main Street business district, the district is overseen by a Prudential Committee elected by voters who live in the district. The district levies its own taxes and holds an annual meeting, much as the town holds its annual Town Meeting.
Some notable articles on the warrant include:
Article 3, which would change the Clerk/Treasurer's position to an appointed position from its current status as an elected position.
Article 8, which would allow the district to spend $2.6 million to construct the Maple Park/Maple Springs Water Treatment Plant.
Article 9, which would appropriate $200,000 to replace a water main.
Article 10, which would release district property for the purpose of constructing solar energy facilities.
Article 12, which would appropriate $75,000 to fund a Contractual Liabilities Account to assist in payment of retirement or separation of employment without affecting the current budget.
Article 13, which would appropriate $30,000 for technology equipment and supplies.
Article 14, which would appropriate $60,000 for a new dispatch console.
Article 15, which would appropriate $23,500 for safety equipment for the dive team.
Article 17, which would allow the district to pay the Town of Wareham $201,000 for past work done on the Oak Street water main project.
Articles 18 and 19, which include the Prudential Committee’s proposed budget for next year ($2,161,065.44, down $67,796.01 from last year), the Fire Department’s proposed budget for next year ($2,564,519.00, up $104,165 from last year), and the Water Department’s proposed budget ($913,279.00, up $47,479 from last year).
