Wareham Free Library director to retire next week
There will soon be a vacancy at the head of the Wareham Free Library as Library Director Denise Medeiros announced she will be retiring on May 29.
"This has been a really good board of Board of Trustees and I've enjoyed working with you," Medeiros said at Thursday's Library Board of Trustees meeting. "Keep up the good fight."
Medeiros was initially planning on retiring at the end of November, but decided to move up her retirement because, as she said, "I was getting laid off."
Trustee Roger Bacchieri said that he and Bethany Gay, chairman of the Board of Trustees, met with Town Administrator Derek Sullivan and that a plan for Medeiros's successor is being formulated.
According to Bacchieri, Sullivan has reached out to a former Wareham Library employee, who was the head of the reference department, to return as library director.
This person is already familiar with the library, the staff and the community. If that person is unable to take the position, Sullivan and the board will begin the process of looking for an outside replacement.
Medeiros said that the Spinney branch in Onset is still scheduled to open in July. She said a prospective schedule, which is still being finalized, would have the Spinney branch open on Monday and Wednesday, the Main Library open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and both libraries closed on Friday and Sunday. The Tuesday and Thursday hours would be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
