Wareham Free Library to show award-winning documentary on blind sailors

Jun 5, 2017

The Wareham Free Library will screen the documentary "Sense the Wind" on June 20 at 5 p.m.

This 54-minute documentary tells the personal stories of four blind sailors who race in national and international regattas, gaining the confidence to press beyond limits in life. They are diverse in backgrounds, age and skill but all share a passion to excel and find camaraderie and community in sport. This film highlights ability, not disability.

Produced over six years, the film was completed in 2015 and is in its festival and outreach preview phase, seeking broadcast and distribution. "Sense The Wind" was recently given a humanitarian award following its New York City premiere at the Socially Relevant Film Festival.

The documentary has been previewing at sailing centers and yacht clubs, cultural art centers, independent theaters, libraries and schools, rehabilitation hospitals, disability organizations and festivals worldwide.

The Wareham Free Library will show the film at no cost.
