Wareham hunkers down for winter's first storm
Winter is in full swing as South Coast residents will be shoveling out from between a predicted 7 to 13 inches of snow come Sunday morning.
Ahead of the storm, Wareham Police have issued a parking ban effective 10 a.m. Saturday. Police noted that Onset Pier and the Temple Lot off of Onset Avenue may be used for parking during the ban.
Town Administrator Derek Sullivan asked residents to obey the ban, allowing plow crews to clear the streets in a timely manner.
"As a reminder we ask for everyone's help adhering to park bans when they are issued," said Sullivan. "The bans are to help clear the streets, parking spaces and sidewalks in the fastest and safest way possible.
Sullivan added that Municipal Maintenance will be ready for snow removal and sanding/salting operations during the storm.
According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm watch is in place from Saturday morning through Saturday night.
Three inches of snow fell Friday with an additional 4 to 8 inches predicted for Saturday.
The National Weather Service warns that untreated roads will become covered in snow and slick. Also, visibility will be reduced.
