A Wareham man was arrested after breaking into the Jug Shop liquor store on Main Street early Sunday morning, according to police.

Ryan Hanscome, 19 of Wareham, was spotted inside of the Jug Shop at 12:30 a.m. Sunday by Officer Jennifer Braley, who responded to a reported alarm sounding at the liquor store at 217 Main St.

According to police, Braley noticed a smashed rear glass door, then saw Hanscome standing behind the counter of the business wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and camouflage pants.

Police said upon being seen, Hanscome ran to another area of the store, then out of the store onto Main Street in an attempt to flee from the area on foot. He was then apprehended by responding patrol officers approximately one-quarter mile from the Jug Shop on Church Avenue at the rear of St. Patrick’s Church.

Although Hanscome did not possess any items from the store at the time of his arrest, store items including lottery tickets and liquor were located outside the store, police said.

Hanscome appeared to be unarmed and was charged with breaking and entering nighttime, larceny from a building, two counts of malicious destruction of property, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

He was to be arraigned on Monday, Jan. 12 at Wareham District Court.

Further investigation of this incident and the possibility of a second involved suspect is being conducted by the Wareham Police Department Detective Division.
