Wareham man arrested for drunk driving, leaving the scene of a crash

A 25-year-old Wareham man was arrested for driving under the influence on Aug. 30, after leaving the scene of crash that involved three children on Route 6 in East Wareham, police said.

Zachary Perocchi of Lakeside Trailer Park faces several charges after he allegedly rear ended a Jeep Renegade with three kids and two adults inside near Sand N’ Surf at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Police said Perocchi, who was driving a red Hyundai Elantra, sped away after the crash. While both cars were heavily damaged, police reported there were no injures.

According to police, Wareham EMS watched Perocchi drive into the Lakeside Trailer Park, located 1 mile from the crash.

Police said Perocchi appeared “extremely intoxicated” and smelled of alcohol.

After failing sobriety tests, Perocchi was arrested and taken to the Wareham Police Department where police said he attempted to escape from custody. However, he was quickly apprehended.

Perocchi faces the following charges: operating under the influence liquor, leaving the scene after causing property damage, operating to endanger, operating after license suspension and escape from a municipal lock-up facility.
