Wareham man dies after fall from tree stand in Maine

A Wareham man died Thursday night after he fell from a tree stand while hunting in Maine.

Thomas Pelletier, 62, had been hunting bear in a remote part of the woods in Hancock County with his friend, Richard Rooks of Westford, when he fell from the tree stand accidentally, according to a press release.

Rooks found Pelletier unresponsive after the fall and, upon arrival of the Maine Warden Service, Pelletier was determined to be dead.

Tree stand falls account for hundreds of injuries in the United States every year. In December, 54-year-old Matthew Pearle of Wareham seriously injured his back after a fall from a tree stand after someone tampered with the cables on the stand.
