Wareham man in 'fair' condition after near drowning in Muddy Cove
A 51-year-old Wareham man is in fair condition after he nearly drowned in Muddy Cove in Onset on Monday.
Wareham Police and Onset Fire personnel arrived at the scene at 1 p.m., where they found two women who were attempting to hold a man, later identified as Dennis Maxim, above approximately 5 feet of water, police said.
Maxim was unresponsive when reached by first-responders, who brought him to shore where Wareham and Bourne EMS workers performed life-saving measures, according to police.
Maxim was taken to Tobey Hospital by ambulance, where a MedFlight helicopter was waiting. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
The Wareham Harbormaster Department also responded to the scene.
Muddy Cove is located off of North Boulevard in Onset.
