Wareham man suspected of fleeing car accident found in marsh near Shenanigans

Wareham Police said they found a 43-year-old man who fled the scene of accident on Saturday, March 9 in a marsh near Shenanigans Bar & Grill where he was reportedly yelling obscenities.

Officer Ryan Turner responded to Cranberry Highway near Robertson’s Auto for the one-car accident around 8:50 p.m. 

According to reports, the damaged car was blocking the entire east bound lane and no operator could be found.

Officers Christopher Corner and James White arrived on scene to assist Turner in looking for the operator of the car, which was registered to an address on Cromesett Road.

At about 9:40 p.m., officers were alerted to a male yelling obscenities near Shenanigans Bar.

Upon their arrival, officers reportedly saw patrons pointing to a marsh area adjacent to the business.

Officers were assisted by Wareham Fire and EMS in getting Jason Mackenzie of Wareham out of the icy water.

Mackenzie was transported to Tobey Hospital for treatment and after an investigation, police suspected him to be the operator of the abandoned car.

Mackenzie is being criminally summoned to court for the following charges: Operating under the influence of liquor (third offense), leaving the scene of a property damage accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
