Wareham motorcycle club organizes 'Law Enforcement Appreciation Day'

Following fatal attacks on police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, members of the Wareham-based Iron Trinity Motorcycle Club want to show the law enforcement community that their work is valued.

Club Vice President Jay King said the news shocked club members. On July 7, five Dallas officers were shot to death and three Baton Rogue officers were killed 10 days later.

After that happened, he said club members showed their appreciation in small ways, but became determined to do more.

“The tragedy in Dallas impacted all of us,” he said. “We started doing things like, if a police officer was behind one of us in Dunkin’ Donuts, you’d pay for their coffee. It snowballed from there, and then when Baton Rogue happened it really reinforced the idea that we wanted to do something.”

On Aug. 7, the club will host “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Middleboro VFW, located at 12 Station St. The event will feature food, games, raffles and live music.

King said all are welcome to the family-friendly event. Admission is $10 while police officers and their families may attend for free. All proceeds will be donated to the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation, Inc.

Club members will deliver invitations in person at the Police Department this week, King said.

“They risk there lives every day for us, and it’s just something that they need to here – that the community is behind them and they are supported,” said King.
