Wareham native Col. David W. Madden retires from Air Force

After thirty years of service, Colonel David W. Madden, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Madden of West Wareham, retired from the United States Air Force.

At the time of his retirement, Colonel Madden was the Commander of the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) Wing of the Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command, at the Los Angeles Air Force Base, California.

He was responsible for a multiservice, multinational systems wing which conducts the development, acquisition, fielding, and sustainment of all GPS space segment, satellite command, and control (ground) segment and GPS military user equipment. The program maintains the largest satellite constellation program and the largest avionics integration and installation program in the Department of Defense.

Colonel Madden entered the Air Force in 1980 after graduating from the Virginia Military Institute.

He has gained vast experience in systems engineering, technical intelligence, and space systems requirements, development, fielding and operations.

Prior to assuming his current position, Colonel Madden was Vice Commander of the Global Positioning Systems Wing of the Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles Air Force Base, California.

Following his retirement, Colonel Madden will continue working for the government as a Senior Executive with the Department of the Air Force as Director of Military Satellite Communications.

Colonel Madden is married to the former Jeannine Aronson, of Quincy. They have three sons; Sean, Timothy, and Mark.
