Wareham-New Bedford Elks raise $1,400 for Toys for Tots

For the fifth year, some boys and girls in need will have something under their Christmas trees thanks to members of the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks #73.

“Our members our very generous when it comes to kids,” said Joanie Hackett, the lodge’s function coordinator. “For a small club we do all right.”

Members raised $1,400 for the Toys for Tots program, coordinated by the Massachusetts State Police and U.S. Marine Corps. Over the past five years, the Elks have raised more than $6,000 for Toys for Tots.

Members raised the funds by purchasing holiday stockings that were hung in the lodge’s lounge.

On Friday morning, five State Police officers were on hand to accept the donation, including Trooper Christopher French, Trooper Billy Bates, Capt. Tom Majenski, Lt. Joe Pimental and Lt. James Plath, commander of the Bourne barracks.
