The Wareham Oyster Festival, Inc. is offering a $1000 scholarship to a student pursuing a career in the aquaculture, or marine science fields.

The scholarship is open to students who are Wareham residents and have been accepted for enrollment into or are enrolled in an accredited college, university, or professional training school. Applications are available from the High School Guidance Offices or at www.warehamoyster.com

The Wareham Oyster Festival, Inc. promotes the study and growth of sustainable aquaculture as well as productive marine populations and ecosystems with a focus on the breeding and harvesting of shellfish. 

The first Wareham Oyster Festival was held in 2014, and each year it draws thousands of locals and visitors to downtown Wareham to celebrate the region's oyster farming and production. The organization also sponsors programs and lectures to the public and in the Wareham schools on a variety of topics on aquaculture and the protection of the marine environment.
