Wareham Police assisting Marion in search for bank robbery suspect
The Wareham Police Department is assisting Marion Police in the search for a suspect accused of robbing the Pilgrim Bank in Marion in May.
Marion Police say the suspect entered the bank, located on Front Street, just before 1:30 p.m. on May 31 and demanded money via a note he passed to a teller. The suspect did not mention or threaten the worker with a weapon, according to police.
The man attempted to leave the bank, but a customer stepped in and attempted to detain the suspect, police said.
"After a brief struggle, the suspect fled the bank on foot toward the direction of Spring Street and Route 6," Marion Police said at the time. "The suspect dropped the majority of the money during the struggle."
Police describe the suspect as a white man, 5'10" to 6' tall, with a thin build. At the time of the incident, a white, gauze bandage was wrapped around his head. He was wearing a gray T-shirt with a red "American Eagle" brand logo, blue jeans, and a green-and-white Boston Celtics baseball hat, police said.
A police dog from the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department searched the area, but was unable to locate the suspect. Police said the suspect may have fled to a nearby vehicle.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Marion Police Detective Scott Smith at 508-748-1212.
