Wareham programs receive educational mini-grants

Jan 25, 2016

A few Wareham-based academic programs received grant awards at this year's Cape Cod Five 16th Annual Educational Mini-Grants Awards & Reception at Cape Cod Community College on Jan. 20.

Three of the bank's 106 grants went to the following Wareham projects:

  • Wareham Cooperative School's electrical work class
  • Kits that provide hands-on science and engineering exploration at the John W. Decas School
  • High school teacher Alfonso Navarro's astronomy club

More than 130 people attended the event, according to Cape Cod Five. Teachers use the grants to offer educational programs that would otherwise not be available to their students. The projects cover a wide variety of disciplines and are often creative and cross-curricular. Since the program’s inception in 2000, more than 900 grants totaling over $335,000 have been awarded.

Public school teachers from all grade levels on the Cape, Islands, and Southeastern Massachusetts communities served by the Bank may submit their applications for Mini-Grants in the fall.
