Wareham School Committee chair will not seek re-election
Jan 5, 2017
Citing “personal and family reasons,” School Committee Chair Mel Lazarus said on Wednesday he would not seek a second, three-year term on the committee. His announcement came two weeks after member Cliff Sylvia announced he would also step down after nearly 16 years on the committee.
“The boss and I discussed it and decided together,” said Lazarus, referring to his wife. “I hope people watching will think of what’s best for the students and teachers of Wareham.”
Lazarus thanked residents for their support during his term and encouraged those interested to run for the position during the town elections, set for April 4.
