Wareham Schools prep for district review Dec. 10

Sep 6, 2018

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Andrea Schwamb announced Thursday night that Wareham public schools will undergo a district review in December with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

State assessors will visit the schools starting Dec. 10 and artifacts of compliance will be sent to the state by Nov. 21.

According to Schwamb, the review acts a “quality assurance test” which checks to see if Wareham is in compliance with state standards for leadership, governance, curriculum, finance, human resources and student support. Data collection methods and professional development programs will also be assessed.

Wareham’s last review with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education took place in 2012. Schwamb stated that Wareham fared poorly during this review and has been working diligently to meet the state’s recommendations ever since.

“I’m very proud of how far we’ve come,” Schwamb said. “It’s a lot of work to prepare for this review, but I think we’ll be in much better standing than before.”
