The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries Buzzards Bay has banned all shellfishing in Wareham waters effective Oct. 8 due to an algae bloom caused by toxic phytoplankton.

This closure includes all private aquaculture sites. The ban will remain in place until further notice.

The Wareham Harbormaster's office will provide more information as it becomes available.
