A Wareham Middle School fifth grade student was named an ambassador for Fuel Up to Play 60, representing Massachusetts at a national summit this summer at Purdue University.

Indiana Troupe was named one of four ambassadors from Massachusetts for the nation’s largest health and wellness program, a partnership between the National Football League, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Dairy Council. The program aims to promote physical activity and healthful eating habits in students.

Indiana’s dedication to the program led to his selection, said his Physical Education teacher Nichole Stahmer.

“Indiana’s enthusiasm is contagious! He is such an inspiration to others,” Stahmer said.

For the Fuel Up to Play 69 program, students participated in a series of physical challenges where they were in competition against themselves, trying to beat their best scores. Stahmer said Indiana enthusiastically completed all his challenges at school and created challenges for his family to participate in at home.

Indiana will attend the student ambassador summit from July 22 - 28 with other students who are focused on health and fitness from across the country. The students will also meet NFL players.

“We send him our congratulations and our very best wishes,” Superintendent Kimberly Shaver-Hood wrote in a statement. “We are extremely proud of what he has accomplished and know that he will be an exemplary representative of Wareham Public Schools.”
