Wareham Supercuts stylists provide foster kids free haircuts

Dec 25, 2018

Stylists at the Wareham Supercuts donated their time recently to provide kids with something a little different this holiday season – free haircuts.

Offered at the store in the Shaw’s Plaza on Marion Road, the invite-only event was held for foster children sponsored by the Marion Police Brotherhood. Each year, that organization seeks donations from area businesses for several families in Wareham.

Supercuts manager Shawna Fitzpatrick said this was the second year the stylists stepped up to help.

On Sunday, Dec. 16, stylists stayed past closing and gave free haircuts to 10 foster children.

“Last year was our first year, and...it is not a corporate event, but an event started by our own stylists,” said Fitzpatrick. “We donated our time that night to help brighten the holidays for these children.”

Last year, five kids participated and Fitzpatrick said she hopes more will take advantage of the free haircut next year.

Additionally, stylists spent the past few weeks raising funds to buy items to give the kids.

Also, each child was given a gift card worth $30 for a haircut along with all the other donations. The store’s clients helped purchase some of the gift cards.

“We were able to give each child a bottle of shampoo, product, samples, and Supercuts gear – notebook, sunglasses, keychain light. We also gave each of the children a gift card for a haircut,” said Fitzpatrick.

She said the stylists are looking forward to next year.

“It gives us much honor to have the privilege to be able to help out. Last year we found the families to be so grateful and many had never been able to afford a professional haircut,” she said. “We hope to make this an ongoing event for years to come, and for it to become more successful each year.”
