Sounds of saltwater: Grace Morrison kicks off tour with hometown show

Jun 30, 2025

“Where the salt of the earth is as real as the smile on your face when you finally give up on the traffic on the bridge to the cape,” is the line Grace Morrsion said best describes Wareham from her latest album.

Morrison, a Wareham native now living in Rochester, recently released her seventh album “Saltwater Country.” The album is an ode to Wareham and many of the songs share stories of Morrison’s upbringing ranging from growing up on Parkwood Drive to a sea shanty about the 1985 hurricane “Gloria” during which Morrison was born.

“People always have this picture when they think Cape Cod, they think I had this affluent upbringing,” Morrison told the crowd. “I say no, my dad was a plumber and we had no running water. But never once did I feel bad, I was a badass.”

She brought her talents to the Wareham Free Library Monday, June 30 to not only celebrate the release of the album, but to make a local stop on her upcoming tour.

“I love playing here,” Morrison said. “Especially when people I wrote the songs about in the audience.”

Morrison recently finished up a tour that took her and her family from Montana to Colorado. Morrison’s next tour begins in Wareham and she will travel for two weeks before concluding in Kentucky.

Making his Wareham debut was Morrison’s son Brayton who helped his mom sing John Denver’s “Country Roads.”

“He has told me so many times that my job isn’t cool and I’ve tried to tell him ‘no but some people have to sit in offices and be bored all day and I get to do this cool thing,’” she said. “On the trip we were just on, he kept trying to get on stage so I was like ‘kay he’s a little interested’ but I’m pretty thrilled he did that.”

Dozens showed up for the concert, including many of Morrison’s family like her cousin Donna Zifcak.

“I thought she was great, she’s amazing Grace,” Zifcak said.

Morrison will next play at the Parkwood Beach Clubhouse located at 27 Datewood Street Sunday, July 26 at 7 p.m.
