Town Clerk Mary Ann Silva will retire in April after serving in the position for 21 years.

The announcement arrived at the start of Monday’s Town Meeting where Silva received a bouquet of flowers and a standing ovation for her service.

“I can’t tell you what she has done to be helpful to me for nine years,” said Moderator Claire Smith. “Thank you for the service you have given…and leading me down a better path.”

Silva said there were some aspects of the position she’ll miss, but not others.

“I’m going to be honest with you, I’m not going to miss the politics, but I will miss the people,” said Silva.

She added that she won’t be going far from Wareham and would be available to offer guidance to the next Town Clerk.
