Wareham Vikings Marching Band ready to 'Get Up and Groove'

Sep 6, 2017

Members of the Wareham Vikings Marching Band are tuning up for a slightly different show than in years past, says the high school’s Music Director Alex Breault.

“We’ve got a little bit of something for everybody and we went in a more ‘pop’ direction,” said Breault.

The theme is “Get Up and Groove” and Breault has a selection of three songs that will hopefully get the crowd pumped during Vikings football games.

The songs are: “Buckjump” by Trombone Shorty, “I Could Have Danced All Night” from My Fair Lady and “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk The Moon.

“We wanted to have some fun with the song selections this year,” said Breault.

Doing so will hopefully generate interest in the marching band, said Breault. Currently, the band has 15 members who range from 5th grade students to high school seniors.

Expanding the music program was one of Breault’s goals when he was hired in Wareham three years ago.

“We’ve got a good, core group of students now,” he said. “The key will be adding new members and that starts with a strong music program in the middle school.”

Junior Justin Schluter, who is now the band’s co-drum major, joined band as a sixth grader.

He said the band has been good and is only getting better.

“We’re going to be awesome this year,” he said.
