Jul 26, 2011

Wareham’s  National Night Out (NNO) will be held on Tuesday, August 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lopes Field in Onset.

The event is sponsored by the Wareham Police Department, the Onset Fire Department, Community Police Partnership volunteers, and national sponsor for National Night Out Target.

This is the second year Wareham is hosting the event.

A parade of fire responder vehicles will begin at Onset Pier at 5:45 p.m., followed by presentation the Stephen J. Brown Courageous Youth Award at 6:15 p.m., a Wareham Police K-9 Unit demonstration at 6:30 p.m., and a Fire Department Jaws of Life demonstration at 7 p.m.

The event promises plenty of entertainment. There will be a moonwalk, a rock wall, face painting, interactive smokehouse, and child ID/fingerprinting. Participants will also enjoy a visit from Smokey the Bear and a ride on the police ATVs.

National Night Out is an event that focuses on crime prevention by encouraging communities and local police departments to work together as partners. Neighborhoods form anti-crime programs which send a strong message to criminals, letting them know that the neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back against crime.

The event is free.
