WCTV seeks help from the community to document history of the Tremont Nail Factory
Wareham Community Television documented the train bridge in Bourne and the history of Onset. What's next? WCTV will be producing a documentary on the history of the Tremont Nail Factory.
In order to make it happen, the station is reaching out to the community in search of photos from when the factory was still operational -preferably inside the building. Also, WCTV is looking for those who used to work there, and are willing to be interviewed.
"We've interviewed three people who worked in the factories," said Executive Director Jay Heard. "They should be able to add a little bit of color to the nuts and bolts," of the story.
WCTV was asked to document the story by the Wareham-based non-profit Tremont Nail Factory Cultural Center.
Heard noted that the documentaries previously done by WCTV took about 18 months each to finish, but this time they have just six months to make the film.
"Just coming off the bridge we were kind of catching our breath...[documentaries] are really time consuming," Heard said. "The main problem is they want it done by May 15."
When making the bridge and Onset documentaries, the staff at WCTV had plenty of easily accessible materials to choose from. This is not the case for the Tremont Nail Factory.
"This one, we're a little stymied," Heard said.
The station managed to find some interesting material, but, at $900 per minute, it was out of their price range.
"It great stuff because it's people working on the machines, and people working around the blacksmith shop."
Heard emphasized the importance of tracking down and interviewing people with firsthand knowledge of the inner workings of the factory.
"Once the older generation is gone, that information goes with them," heard said.
Do you know anybody who once worked at the Tremont Nail Factory? Do you have pictures of the facility when it was still operational?
If so, contact Jay Heard at jay@warehamtv.org. Materials may also be sent to WCTV, 505 Main Street PO Box 446 Wareham, MA 02571.
