A second man, this one from West Wareham, has been charged in the Bourne murder of former Wareham resident Antone Gutierrez.

According to a press release from the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office, Amonty Amado, 20, was arrested by Massachusetts State Police Wednesday night in New Bedford and has been charged with murder. He was expected to be arraigned at Falmouth District Court some time Thursday morning.

On Wednesday, another suspect, Sonny Tavares, 26, of Buzzards Bay, was ordered to be held without bail by Judge Robert Welsh III at Falmouth District Court after pleading not guilty to charges of first degree murder, aggravated assault and battery, unlawful possession of a firearm (second offense), and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

The most recent press release from the Cape and Islands District Attorney added that Tavares had been arrested on Tuesday at Traveler’s Choice Inn, Route 28, Wareham, along with his sister Maia Tavares, 33, of Bourne, as well as Dillon Amaral, 21, of East Wareham, who were charged with possession of heroin and knowingly being present where heroin is kept.

According to the clerk’s office at Wareham District Court, Maia Tavares was released on $1,000 bail and will have a pre-trial hearing on May 9, while Amaral was released without bail and will also have a pre-trial hearing on the same date. Both will be tried at Wareham District Court.

On Tuesday, Sonny Tavares was arrested at the State Police barracks in Bourne after being questioned in the murder of Gutierrez near Cape Side Convenience in Bourne.

A motorist reported a man lying in the vicinity of Trowbridge Road, and police arrived to find Gutierrez suffering from gun shot and stab wounds.

Gutierrez was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning at 12:42 a.m.

According to an initial press release from the Cape and Islands District Attorney, the murder was part of an apparent heroin deal between Gutierrez and others including Sonny Tavares and Amado.

Though the press release had Gutierrez as residing in Bourne at the time of the murder, an older story in Wareham Week had him listed as residing at The Woods at Wareham.
