Westfield committee working to meet April deadline
Members of the Westfield RFP Committee told Selectmen in a workshop meeting Saturday that the committee would need at least two more meetings to complete its work.
The committee is charged with making suggestions to the Board of Selectmen for a request for proposal, or RFP, for the construction of senior affordable housing on the Westfield property in West Wareham. Selectmen set a deadline of April 1 for the committee to complete its work.
The committee is reviewing and revising a previous Westfield RFP. It must examine roughly five more pages, said committee member Bruce Sauvageau.
"If we work hard next meeting, we would get that banged out, followed by one more meeting" to discuss recreation and athletic fields at the site, said Sauvageau. The developer will be responsible for maintaining the athletic fields.
The committee is hoping to complete its work before the April 5 election, which will result in two new Selectmen. The Selectmen members and Westfield committee members in attendance Saturday agreed that it would be ideal to complete the work before new Selectmen join the Board, so the newcomers will not need to get up to speed on the committee's work. (Selectmen Jane Donahue and Brenda Eckstrom did not seek re-election.)
Town Administrator Mark Andrews will need to complete his own work on the RFP before the project is put out to bid.
