William Rogers, Jr., 90
William M. Rogers, Jr., 90, died March 26 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was the husband of Therese C. (Fortin) Rogers. They were married for 65 years.
Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Mary (Vieria) and William M. Rogers, Sr. His love of firefighting began early when he joined the Wareham Fire Department at the age of 15. He served on the Wareham Fire Department and for the Wareham Fire District for 50 years. He retired as captain from the Otis Fire Department in 1980.
Billy was co-owner of Rogers and Sons Garage in Wareham, and was a life member of the Wakinquoah Rod and Gun Club, American Legion Post #220. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946.
Survivors include his wife, Therese; two sons, Mark F. Rogers, and his wife Luzia, and Joseph N. Rogers all of Wareham; his brother, Donald J. Rogers of Wareham, and his grandchildren, Jonathan Rogers, and Victoria Rogers. He was predeceased by his siblings, the late F. Milton Rogers, Genevieve Phillips, and John P. Rogers.
His funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), Wareham on Friday, March 31 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Center Cemetery, Wareham.
