YMCA Family Day marks start of summer

They came to celebrate the beginning of summer and the opening of the YMCA’s swimming pool. They stayed to help make a music video.

"Family Day is pretty much a member-appreciation day," said Gleason Family YMCA Executive Director Laura Prisco. "What's nice about this is it's an event where the family can do it together."

Local band Push 4171, a group of musicians put together and managed by former member of Markey Mark and the Funky Bunch Scott Ross happened to use the opportunity to make a music video.

"This is an event that was already set up," said Alicia Thatcher, mother of the band's lead singer, Wareham resident Teddy Mathews. "It came up that we had an opportunity to shoot the video," and the YMCA allowed them to used the festivities as a back drop.

The band provided entertainment while Y visitors lounged by and swam in the pool, and kids got balloon animals and had their faces painted.

Extras in the music video didn't need any makeup or costumes -- hey just had to be excited about the band! From the looks of it, that wasn't difficult to do. They even got a chance to chase a car carrying the band members.

Prisco was happy with the turnout.

"We also have summer camp starting up Monday, so that's part of all this," she said, noting that the YMCA offers a number of summer activities.
