The Gleason Family YMCA will aim to give attendees goosebumps at its annual Spooktacular on the evening of Oct. 30.

The Spooktacular will run from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., both inside the YMCA’s gym, and outside the building. The entrance fee is $3 for adults, and $5 for children. Costumes are optional.

YMCA membership coordinator Cathy Longfield said the event does indeed have a scary component, but offers plenty of non-spooky fun for people who aren’t up for fright.

“In the gymnasium … there is a bounce house, we have an inflatable Gaga pit … the inflatable slide, and we’ll have a balloon man there who will be making balloon animals,” Longfield said. “We have lots of games for all the little kids who can’t do the scary stuff.”

For those who enjoy getting the chills, Longfield said, there will be a haunted forest walkthrough, complete with scattered limbs and dead mermaids.

“I’m having a hard time buying body parts,” Longfield confided. “We’ve got body parts, but not enough. … I was just out shopping, and was like, ‘Body parts, I need more body parts!’ And a woman looks at me, and I’m like, ‘I’m from the Y. We’re having a haunted forest.’”

Longfield said Y employees and volunteers will be walking attendees through the haunted forest, called ‘Never Ever Land’. The forest’s theme is a haunted play on well-known Disney characters.

“We will have Maleficent out there scaring kids. I am doing something with dead mermaids at the pool,” Longfield said. “Then we are going to have the Three Little Pigs roasting the Big Bad Wolf. … We’re going to have something with ‘Tangled’ on the ropes course. … We’ll have Snow White and the Seven Dead Dwarfs … and lots of zombies.”

Longfield said the forest is “a quick, five-minute walk,” and it will be tailored to whoever’s going through the attraction.

“We downplay it for anyone who needs it,” Longfield said. “And it ends at the gymnasium, so you go back into the happiness of the gym.”

Longfield also said there would be a bake sale, and other concessions for sale.
