You pick the topic, you write the story

Mar 1, 2010

Most of the discussion on WarehamVillageSoup, and on most newspapers' websites, occurs in the form of comments on stories. We write about a topic or a contributor writes about a topic, and readers go online to add their opinions about that topic. "Discussions" and "Reader Stories" let you pick the topic.

Want to ask about good places in town to walk your dog? What do other residents think of snow-removal efforts? What's going on with some construction you have noticed? What's up with a business that has recently closed?

Discussions are an opportunity for Wareham residents to talk with their neighbors about what they want to talk about - be it politics or poodles or the Vikings' basketball season.

As things have turned out, Discussions are also a way to tell us about stories we need to be writing. I mentioned a couple of the items above because they actually occurred - and resulted in stories in today's paper. Thanks to a discussion begun by vigilant reader "steve b," Editor Cyrus Moulton put himself on the trail of persistent rumors about plans to construct a super Walmart in town. (See Page 3.) Also thanks to "steve b," reporter Jaime Rebhan has the scoop on plans for reopening the coffee shop and local institution known as Cup of the Bay. (See Page 14.) Thanks steve!

Reader Stories are for those who have a bit more to say about a topic. Again, the topic can be anything that interests you and you think will interest your neighbors. Just log on, write your story, and click to publish!

To start a Discussion or to post a Reader Story, you have to be a "Premium iMember" of WarehamVillageSoup.com. Don't let the fancy name scare you off. It costs $10 a year, payable by credit card when you click on "Join" on the site.
