Nearly $3,000 and counting raised in Wareham's Walk for Hunger
Nearly 100 participants brought in almost $3,000, with more donations still rolling in, during the Greater Wareham Walk for Hunger on Sunday, May 5.
Hosted by area churches, the event raises money for Project Bread, a nonprofit dedicated to alleviating, preventing, and ultimately ending hunger in Massachusetts.
The five-mile course is a shorter alternative to the longer course in Boston, which also raises funds for Project Bread. The course starts at the Church of the Good Shepherd on High Street, proceeds to Sandwich Road and the Church of the Nazarene, before turning onto Depot Street and Minot Avenue, and ending back at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Pastor Ginny Doran of the Wesley United Methodist Church blessed the walk with an opening prayer.
"What a blessing to see so many enthusiastic people from Wareham and area churches," said Pat Probert of the Church of the Good Shepherd, "especially the youth!"
