Wareham Community Gardens seeks members for next bloom
Hidden behind a wall of trees and honeysuckle on Tihonet Road is a tranquil little spot where you'll find a number of well-tended little garden plots.
Wareham Community Gardens is winding down as the weather cools down, but is looking for members who, for $35 a year, can have access to a 5x18 plot for gardening.
"We want to get people in by next summer, if possible," said Paulette Schnut, who maintains a plot at the Community Gardens. "There's at least six plots available."
Some gardeners put up little fences to protect their spaces.
"You might get a deer once in awhile," said Schnut. "Of course, in the morning, you'll see a lot of bunnies."
There's a plethora flowers — including marigolds and sunflowers — and a whole lot of veggies, including peppers, tomatoes, and squash.
The garden is on A.D. Makepeace property, and the company maintains the grounds, keeps the grass mowed and the brush trimmed.
"They keep it nicely maintained," said Schnut.
The peaceful little spot is great place to not only plant a garden, but to meet fellow gardeners and be a part of something, gardeners say.
