Upper Cape Tech Rams even football record to 2-2
The Upper Cape Tech Rams crushed the Old Colony Regional Tech Cougars in a game that featured mistakes from the Cougars, including many turnovers.
The Rams improved to 2-2 overall following a 43-20 win on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Oliveira Field in Rochester.
The Rams, who won the Division 5 State Championship last year, are looking forward to next week when they face off against West Bridgewater High School.
Rams Head Coach Mike Hernon attributed the win to a well-executed ground game.
“I thought we did a good job today finishing our runs,” Hernon said.
Old Colony Head Coach Bryce Guilbeault said speed and a lack of communication hurt the Cougars on Saturday.
“We didn’t click as a unit,” Guilbeault said. “The thing about Upper Cape is they’re pretty fast and they scored right away. Turnovers also hurt us.”
For Hernon, the win gives the Rams some momentum after a “slow start.”
Following the win, Hernon congratulated the team.
“When you finish everything you do, you end up with a feeling like today. Hard work pays off, but we’re not done,” Hernon said.
The game's outcome wasn't in question after the second quarter, but the Cougars defense put forth a strong defensive effort in the third quarter.
The Cougars stopped the Rams before the goal line and managed to block a field goal attempt. However, Dylan Derby broke through the Cougars defense at the end of the third quarter for a touchdown, and improved the Rams to an untouchable 43 points.
