For the 23rd year, the New Age Role Models and Friends, the Massachusetts organization which helps support the literacy goals of Reading is FUNdamental (RIF) is celebrating its "a Salute to RIF" Nov. 18 to 22.

Reading is FUNdamental is a national nonprofit organization that works for a literate America by getting the nation's youngest people to read. The organization works through a nationwide network of community-based projects.

The program brings hundreds of volunteers, politicians, sports figures, community leaders, parents and celebrities into elementary schools around the state to read-aloud to students.

"Children should be introduced to the joy and wonders of reading," Joanne Byron, the organization's chair said.

"Encouragement and inspiration from a special person can make a difference in a child's future," says Eastern Bank vice president Rose Berry. Berry will be coordinating activities in the elementary schools in Wareham for the program's 23rd celebration.
