Tattoo store holds toy drive

Standing beside Cranberry Highway in the freezing cold weather, Sinners and Saints Tattoo held its toy and food drive on Saturday, Dec. 14, in the parking lot of East Wareham plaza.

“A gentleman brought these heating pads. I’m good. I’m like a brand new man right now,” owner Roger Chouinard said. “These things are the best creation of all time.”

Chouinard stood beside the Sinners and Saints trailer collecting donations from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“It’s a good thing that people do stuff like this,” said Chance Mortensen. “Nobody has had too much money these days.”

The price tag on donated items did not matter much to Choinard, though.

“I’ve had people stop to take a picture with Chubaca, and then stop by the dollar store and get something,” Chouinard said. “If I can help out a few people, then that’s great.”

While a tattoo shop holding a toy drive may seem peculiar, Chouinard feels it’s all for the best.

“It just shows that everyone is a person. I think tattoos are so socially accepted now,” said Chouinard. Toy drives can “just reach a better range of people, like the police are doing their drive, and that’s a great thing.”

Donations could also be dropped off at Total Auto Concepts, Chuck's Auto, Old Iron Gym and Ocean Graphics.

The food was donated to Meals on Wheels, and the toys will be given to Wareham families.

This is the second year that Sinners and Saints has done an outdoor toy drive. Overall, the shop has done a drive for six years – since the shop has opened.

“Everyone knows where my shop is, but I figure if I did one outside, that’s another chance of getting things and making it better,” Chouinard said.

“Every year, I just had a really good Christmas with my parents and family, and I think every kid should be able to wake up and have something in the living room,” Chouinard said. “It’s expected. That’s what you see on TV all the time.”
