High School Library gets $7,000 check from Gateway Tavern
The Wareham High School Library has a good partner in town: Gateway Tavern. The tavern has donated over $27,000 over the last few years, and gave a $7,000 check to the library on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Gateway Tavern owner Joe Sauro presented Wareham High School with the $7,000 check on Wednesday — funds raised from the restaurant’s 7th annual golf tournament, held in October.
“The Gateway has been a huge support to the library and has helped to improve student-accessible technology,” says Librarian Judi DeBonise. “This year, we are looking to not only add to technology for the students, but to add to the aging print collection at the high school.”
The funds received over the last few years have paid for 38 new computers, tables and chairs, renovations for a presentation area, equipment and supplies for a portfolio center and software that allows students to search all of the library’s materials.
Sauro says he was inspired to help after learning that, due to budgetary constraints, the high school could not fund much-needed updates to the library.
Principal Scott Palladino notes that the library is the one area of the school where donations can reach and benefit all high school students.
