Aug 20, 2010

U.S. Senator Scott Brown will be one of five honorees of the inaugural Braveheart Award given by Wareham Crossing.

The Saturday, September 18 event is a celebration of everyday hero's and our military. Braveheart Award recipients are people who show compassion, bravery and want to make a difference in our communities.

In addition to receiving the honor, Senator Brown will be on hand at the Saturday, September 18 festivities to swear in a new class of U.S. Army recruits and to welcome back a unit recently returning from Iraq.

The award ceremony will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the swearing-in ceremony at noon.  The event will be hosted by 96.9 WTKK talk radio host Michele McPhee.

During the day, stores at Wareham Crossing will be collecting items for our overseas military. Shoppers will be encouraged to purchase from participating merchants items such as socks, bug spray, phone cards, water bottles and other items much-needed by the military. The items will be included in holiday care packages assembled by Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops, a local nonprofit organization.

The public is welcome to attend, and military members, past and present, are encouraged to wear their uniforms. The day will be filled with activities for all ages, including:
