Weweantic to get navigational markers
Sep 1, 2010
Navigational markers will be installed in the Weweantic River to provide assistance to boaters, Acting Harbormaster Garry Buckminster told the Board of Selectmen Tuesday.
The area, especially leading up to the Weweantic bridge, is "treacherous," Buckminster said.
Buckminster will work in conjunction with the Town of Marion Harbormaster to install around 18 markers.
Selectman Steve Holmes applauded the effort, noting that he has marks on his boat due to Weweantic rocks.
In other town business:
- Town Administrator Mark Andrews announced that Judith Lauzon has been hired for the position of Assistant Town Accountant. The hiring was a result of a suggestion in a town financial audit that suggested the Town Accountant's department needed additional help.
- Acting Harbormaster Garry Buckminster announced that Boating Safety Day will take place at the Onset Pier from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 11.
- The Board of Selectmen voted to get the opinion of town lawyers regarding the creation of a noise by-law. If OK'd by lawyers, Selectmen will add an article for the by-law to the October Town Meeting warrant. If approved by voters, the by-law would allow Police to fine residents and visitors making too much noise in the evening hours.
