Maureen S. (Scanlon) Matoes, 80
Maureen S. (Scanlon) Matoes, 80, of Falmouth, formerly of Wareham, died Aug. 7 while surrounded by her loving family in Falmouth Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Nora (Flaherty) Scanlon.
She was born in Galway, Ireland and lived in Wareham and Falmouth for many years.
Mrs. Matoes loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren and attending school events and activities with them. She was proud of her Irish heritage.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila A. Sewell and her husband Alan of Nashua, New Hampshire and Gail T. Strom and her husband Thomas of Marion; Seven brothers, Seamus, Sean, Christy, Thomas, Gerard, Martin and Michael Scanlon and two sisters, Bridget McAnulty and Nancy Orr all of Ireland; four grandchildren, Christian Sewell, Hannah Strom, Erin Sewell and David Strom; many nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late Patrick Scanlon.
Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
