UPDATE: Blizzard warning in effect; police say to expect 10 to 14 inches of snow, power outages
The Wareham Police Department has issued a blizzard warning, with a potential 10 – 14 inches of snow overnight, and area power outages.
Police said winds may reach up to between 50 and 60 miles per hour. They imposed a parking ban on the town of Wareham that began at noon Saturday, Jan. 23.
According to the National Weather service, there will be around three to five inches during the day Saturday, with winds between 24 and 38 miles per hour, and five to nine inches overnight into Sunday, with winds between 26 and 44 miles per hour.
Town Administrator Derek Sullivan and Board of Selectmen Chair Patrick Tropeano said in separate emails that the town is planning for normal salting and plowing of roads. Tropeano said if there are "a number of power outages," an emergency plan will be implemented that includes turning the Multi Service Center into a warming station.
Police said the parking ban's end has yet to be determined.
