Who's in charge?
The Town Administrator's chair was filled at Tuesday's Board of Selectmen meeting, but not by Mark Andrews.
Building Inspector Myles Burke was filling in for the TA, who was absent due to deaths in his family, Selectmen Chair Jane Donahue said. But the Acting Town Administrator caused confusion among meeting-attendees.
Speaking during the "citizens participation" portion of the meeting, Finance Committee Chair Donna Bronk asked who the "Assistant Town Administrator" was. Donahue explained that no one currently holds that position, and that John Sanguinet, who is frequently thought to be Assistant Town Administrator, is actually the assistant to the Board of Selectmen.
Donahue further explained that, per the Town Charter, Andrews can appoint any of his department heads, which includes the Building Inspector, as Acting Town Administrator in his absence.
"That's good. Maybe they should appoint somebody from maintenance," Bronk said.
Later in the meeting, Burke said that "Mr. Andrews is still very much in charge," adding that he and Sanguinet are "making sure it's business as usual in the Town of Wareham in [Andrews'] absence."
