Duck-o-rating, then duck-o-racing
The second Rubber Duck Race saw dozens of participants take a “quack” at their competition on Sunday.
Hosted by the Friends of the Wareham Library at Tihonet Village, the event served as a fundraiser for the library. It’s been in the making for months and all proceeds go to the library.
Though the turnout was lower than last year, Roger Bacchieri, vice chair of the library’s Board of Trustees, said the event was still a lot of fun for families.
There were games and activities spread throughout the grounds, and most ducks were duck-o-rated before the race.
Participants waited patiently along the water in anticipation for the ducks. After a short countdown, the ducks streamed downhill through the pipe and into the canal next to Tihonet Pond, flying fast at first then slowly floating toward the finish line.
Some got caught in bushes and shrubs along the way. As the competition narrowed, people watched the winning duck gently bounce into the finish line.
The first place winner was third grader Ariana Fernandes, who won a $20 gift card to Flagship Cinemas.
