Rose Cardoza, 95
Rose Andrews Cardoza passed away peacefully at her son John’s home in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sept. 1, 2015 at the age of 95. Rose was the widow of the John J. Cardoza of Wareham.
Rose was born on Feb. 1, 1920 in Plymouth to Mariana Gonsalves and Fortunato Andrade. Residing in Wareham for more than 40 years, Rose was active in many organizations. She worked in food services for the Wareham School Department, volunteered at the Wareham Area Counseling Thrift Shop as well as the Tobey Hospital’s Gift Shop.
She was past president of the Dudley L. Brown VFW woman’s auxiliary post 2846 and a member of the St. Patrick’s Lady of Fatima Circle.
Later in life, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona to live with her son David and daughter-in-law Chris and their loving family. Rose resided in Phoenix for eight years, she regularly attended their Senior Center, and there made many friends playing bingo. She also loved scouring yard sales with David.
After he beloved son David’s passing in 2012, she moved to Las Vegas. There she lived her final years with her son John and daughter Lisa enjoying outdoor jazz concerts and being serenaded by the famous Inkspots. She celebrated her 95th birthday with Las Vegas friends and her Phoenix family members just eight months before her passing.
Wife, mother, grandmother, sister and auntie to many, she is greatly missed. She is survived by her son John (Jojo) and his partner Susan Whitaker and daughter Lisa Cardoza, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; her daughter-in-law Christine from Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren Melissa, Justin, Shawntae, Gianni and Amari and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, son David, brothers Luiz, Henrique, Sylvester and Antone Andrade, John and Frank Andrews, sisters Mary Silva and Jennie Fernandes.
A Mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham will be held June 24 at 10 a.m. Roses ashes will be buried with her husband and son at St. Patrick’s Cemetery following the Mass. A repass at the Dudley L. Brown VFW in Onset will follow burial.
