Yvonne Stone, 83
Yvonne Sonia (Ciampa) Stone, 83, of Marion, formerly of Wareham, passed away June 27 at Sippican Healthcare Center. She was the wife of William D. “Bill” Stone of Forestdale formerly of Wareham. Mrs. Stone was born in Boston’s historic North End, the daughter of the late Ralph and Caroline (Paolucci) Ciampa.
A former professional dancer, she worked with many well-known celebrities. She loved music, dancing, traveling and most of all she enjoyed being with and helping the elderly and having fun with them. She also enjoyed arranging and planning elder trips and planning the weekly bingo game. She was a dedicated volunteer for more than 35 years at the Wareham Council of Aging and the Friends of the Elderly and served as the president of the Friends for many of those years. She was also the past president of the Wareham Chapter of AARP and served on the board of directors of the Council of Aging. In 2005, she was presented the Citizen of the Year Award by the Wareham Lodge of Elks. She was a two-time National Presidential Lifetime Award recipient winning the first in 2005 and the second in 2010. She was recognized by the Wareham Board of Selectmen in 2010 and 2012.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children: Ralph Stone and his wife Helen of Bridgewater, David Stone of New Mexico and Carolann and her husband Bob Ahonen of Forestdale. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be made to your local chapter of the MSPCA.
