Classic cars parked for a 'then and now' at Cranberry Cottage

A group of Cranberry Cottage regulars turned the clock back 54 years on Wednesday afternoon.

A 1957 Chevrolet, Model T, a 1934 Ford, a 1950 Chevrolet Deluxe and other classic cars were parked in front of the restaurant, which first opened as Muriel’s Snack Shack in 1950.

John Coneeny, the restaurant’s owner, said the regulars were inspired to get together after seeing a photograph of the restaurant taken in 1962. One of the regulars happened to own a 1950 Chevrolet Deluxe seen in the photograph (not the same exact car, despite a rumor going around to the contrary). After that, the group decided to bring their classic cars out.

“It’s a great group of guys,” said Coneeny. “They saw the picture and talked about getting together to recreate it. We’re all having a little bit of fun this afternoon.”

Gary Pittsley arrived with his 1957 black Chevrolet.

“All of us have been looking at that picture for awhile now and decided today was the day,” he said.

With all the cars in place, many walked across Route 6 and attempted to get the exact angle seen in the original.

“Now we have a new photograph to put up in the restaurant,” said Paul Girard. “It’ll make for a good ‘then and now.’”
